5 products Intel could cut in its reshuffle

Intel has some wild ideas of garments such as OnCue streaming TV service, WiMax chips and smartphones. Now, more products are likely to be fired as the company is looking for a post-PC world.

chipmakers have promised last month to consider and reduce some of the products under the restructuring plan, which provides for the dismissal of 12,000 employees. Atom smartphone chip is the first to go to while Intel diversion of resources to profitable products in areas such as servers, connecting to 5G, computer games and hybrid devices.

Here are some foods that can get the boot:

Itanium chips

Once powerful Itanium server chip can leave earlier than expected. user base is shrinking, and Intel opened attract customers to move to its Xeon x86 chip. The future of Itanium chips codenamed Kittson, is expected in the coming years, and the company Hewlett-Packard is one of several Intel Itanium client said it will not keep the Itanium servers on the road map until 2025.

Complications side here, Intel can try to minimize the development and production of chip resources committed to Itanium. Intel did not respond to requests for comment on the future of Itanium is.

Education and Tablet PCs

Intel formed a research group in the 2000s with the aim to compete with the entries, One Laptop Per Child, which took the world by storm with the cheap XO laptop. Hawking Group netbook alternative reference design cost for smaller PC makers to make laptops to school. This work was later expanded to include conversion devices and tablets with Windows or Android.

Tablets and laptops are now cheap and powerful enough to replace specific PC, Chromebook is leading the way.

manufacturer plates

Intel is good at creating drones, robots and other interesting things in the lab, but the company was not able to attract the Community producers of DIY as a whole. General Director Brian Krzanich sees itself as a manufacturer and enthusiasm, but his vision is not transferred to the Community producer, making great products, using the plate as Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone not Intel Edison and Galileo. (Intel Krzanich jointly organized a TV show called The Greatest American Makers who at least try to involve the creative community, however.)

If not now, some Intel motherboards can eventually get the boot. But board size Curie keys dedicated to mobile devices as well as the latest Arduino 101, which can replace the Galileo can help expose an Intel manufacturer to develop a device for the rapid market growth of Internet things.

Wi-Di

Intel provides its own wireless display technology called Wi-Di to connect a laptop directly to the big screen. It did not work in the living room, so that the company is focused on technology in the courtroom. However, the same technology Miracast which can operate on a device that is now standard in the display of the PC product and streaming video.

Google Chromecast is versatile and makes the appropriate Wi-Di. It appears as a wireless WiGig technology, which is much faster than Wi-Fi, as well as take the appearance of wireless signals to display high definition.

Atom chip for servers

Intel does not updated Atom chip for servers in 2013, no longer updated Atom chip for smartphones and tablets, and they can be stopped on the server as well. The chip was originally intended for micro-servers, where the D series of Xeon chips low-level Xeon E3 and take as a more powerful alternative.

But if the ARM-based competition chip architecture design is a serious threat to the servers in the coming years, Atom, you can get back into the data center.
